Momma sat in the kitchen remembering you,
your soft smile,
mole under the cheek and soft salt pepper hair.
we sat in the kitchen thinking about how much you loved
that i have your name,
 and how much you Loved.

we remembered the nights at your house,
sitting up receiving the Word
from your soft voice box,
Mary Kay skin and Genesis 17:7, on the knees for prayer.
in the morning, grits, bacon and
Waffles, hot and fresh,
Warm seats and smiles in the pink kitchen.

we remembered what it was like,
you got sick,
Pink kitchen to white walls, blue scrubs and cold faces.
you slowly started to fade,
you still kept that smile on your face,

"babygirl, why you crying?"

i remembered the day
we found out we lost you.
Love left our vessels,
our hearts dropped,
momma cried out
i became afraid.

Untimely transitions,
unexpected transformation
i became afraid,
seeing the people fade.
now
 I sit with my granny,
we laugh, cry , hoot and holler
and gather our flowers for you.
thinking of you and all i wanted to say to you,
how much i miss you, after all these years.
i hope you having fun in heaven,
using your Mary K,
dressed in that teal outfit you liked,
Miss Margaret Long.
